Hermitage museum: Main Complex – duration 3 hours
The museum was founded in 1764 when Catherine the Great purchased a collection of 225 paintings from the German city of Berlin. Today, the Hermitage boasts over 3 million exhibits and displays a diverse range of art and artifacts from all over the world and from throughout history (from Ancient Egypt to the early 20th century Europe).
The State Hermitage occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St Petersburg. During the tour you will see the interiors of the Winter Palace and main collection of West European Ants.
