The State Tretiakov Gallery – duration 3 hours
The State Tretyakov Gallery is the national treasury of Russian fine art and one of the greatest museums in the world. It is known as the richest collection of Russian art and is a must-see for any visitor of the city. The collection contains more than 130000 works of painting, sculpture and graphics, created throughout the centuries by successive generations of Russian artists.
Among the highlights of the collection are the works of Andrei Rublev, the world famous icon painter of the 14th–15th centuries whose art reflects the idea of human spirituality and harmony; the canvases by Ilya Repin and Vasily Surikov; the landscapes by Isaak Levitan, Arkhip Kuinji, Alexei Savrasov; the marine scenes by Ivan Aivazovsky; the portraits by Ivan Kramskoy; the sculptures by Sergei Konenkov and Anna Golubkina.
The museum also boasts of collection of the art of |XX century. The exhibition of so-called New Tretyakov Gallery shows works of socialist realism and world-renowned avant-garde painters such as Malevich, Kandinsky, Chagall and Goncharova.
